Reasonably reduce costs and scientifically enhance efficiency—products like Nai Jia Wang and Wei Si Wang are essential for health care in family-run pig farms.

Yu Pingliang, Technical Director of Wuhan Dami Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, shares: Effective Strategies for Reducing Costs and Improving Efficiency in Pig Farms Under the Normal Conditions of African Swine Fever.

As African swine fever becomes increasingly prevalent and complex, reducing costs and improving efficiency have become the relentless goals of pig farms. Yu Pingliang, Technical Director of Wuhan Dami Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, shared “Effective Strategies for Reducing Costs and Enhancing Efficiency in Pig Farms under the New Normal of ASF.” Starting with an analysis of industry trends and business models, he provided a detailed explanation of practical and feasible strategies for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.

In Yu Pingliang’s view, African swine fever is an enduring issue, while porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) and viral diarrhea in pigs are difficult to prevent and control. Against the backdrop of ongoing exploitation by policies, capital, and platforms, investment and speculation coexist, and the pig farming industry will continue to operate at high costs.

Based on his deep insights into the pig farming industry, Yu Pingliang pointed out that the most effective ways to reduce costs and improve efficiency today can be pursued from four key areas: First, choose an appropriate farming model with a moderate scale; second, implement meticulous management to maximize both litter size and survival rates; third, place great emphasis on feed formulation to achieve cost reduction and increased production; fourth, minimize medication use while focusing on proactive disease prevention and control.

Referring to the topic of refined management, Yu Pingliang emphasized that it’s crucial to adopt meticulous feeding practices for sows to improve piglet birth weight and uniformity; provide scientifically sound care while avoiding overcare; recommend early weaning in a different location and raise pigs in a flat-floor system until market weight; and use probiotics more frequently while minimizing the use of antibiotics.

“To achieve cost reduction and efficiency improvement, products like Naijiawang and Weiswang are essential for the health management of family-run pig farms,” Yu Pingliang further explained. “Naijiawang can provide highly effective nutrition, while Weiswang helps enhance the quality of milk.”

How can medication use be reduced? Yu Pingliang believes that to reduce Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex (PRDC), sows should avoid antibiotics as much as possible and probiotics should be used whenever feasible to minimize the occurrence of digestive tract diseases.

As Yu Pingliang pointed out, the prevention and control of swine diseases remain top priorities. “For the prevention and control of African swine fever, we should not rely on vaccines but instead focus primarily on biosecurity. As for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS), closing off the herd and implementing isolation and acclimatization are effective preventive measures. Isolation and acclimatization, backfeeding, and high-intensity vaccination can effectively control viral diarrhea in pigs. At the same time, whenever possible, we should adopt combined vaccinations to reduce the number of vaccine doses required,” said Yu Pingliang.

“If we don’t prioritize improving efficiency and reducing costs, we might even struggle to survive!” Yu Pingliang emphasized that under the new normal of African swine fever, only by reasonably cutting costs and scientifically boosting efficiency can pig farms ensure their survival and sustainable development.

“ This year, the overall profitability of pig farming is expected to be better than last year. ”

Deng Yunbo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Hunan Provincial Animal Husbandry and Aquatic Products Affairs Center: An Interpretation of the Current Status and Supporting Policies for Animal Husbandry Development in Hunan Province

As a major province in pig farming and a significant exporter of live pigs, Hunan Province recorded 62.48 million pigs slaughtered in 2022, with a pork production volume of 4.58 million tons—both reaching new highs in recent years and ranking second nationwide. Throughout the year, the province exported 4.33 million live pigs, 189,400 tons of processed pork products, 56,000 live pigs, and 12,000 tons of processed pork products—each ranking among the highest in the country.

Deng Yunbo, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Hunan Provincial Animal Husbandry and Aquatic Products Affairs Center, provided a detailed introduction to the current state of animal husbandry development in Hunan Province and explained several supporting policies. With his visionary outlook, he greatly boosted the confidence of pig farmers.

According to Deng Yunbo, stabilizing policies means stabilizing expectations, and stabilizing expectations means stabilizing the market. Hunan Province’s supportive policies for livestock development include land-use policies, forestry land-use policies, ecological and environmental policies, financial support policies, rewards for counties that significantly export live pigs, disease prevention and control policies, resource utilization of manure and sewage, subsidies for superior pig breeds and pig industry cluster projects, agricultural machinery purchase subsidies, and frozen meat storage and reserve policies.

“The current losses are temporary. From all perspectives, pork production is unlikely to see significant growth in the second half of the year. Imports of frozen meat continue to be tightly controlled and reduced, while market consumption is expected to rebound gradually. We forecast that overall profitability in the pig farming industry this year will be better than last year.” Deng Yunbo encouraged farm operators to maintain confidence in production and accelerate the pace of upgrading and improving the industry’s quality. He also pointed out that, from both an external environmental and intrinsic demand standpoint, livestock production is a sunrise industry with promising long-term prospects.

The Xilai Gao Solution: A Comprehensive Approach to Cost Reduction and Efficiency Enhancement

Hu Chunchan, Deputy General Manager of Xilai Gao

Share: Micronutrients, Great Benefits

Precision nutrition is a growing trend. In recent years, Xilai Gao has focused on the research and application of disease-resistant and value-added nutrition, achieving remarkable results. Hu Chuncan, Deputy General Manager of Xilai Gao, delivered a presentation titled “Micronutrition: Great Benefits,” outlining the role of nutrition in animal husbandry, as well as related research and applications. He also introduced the comprehensive “Wangwang Plan” (Naijia Wang + Weisi Wang)—a cost-reduction and efficiency-enhancing solution—and discussed the application of “Xueyuan Kang” in promoting hematopoiesis and replenishing qi in pigs.

Hu Chunchan pointed out that the “Wangwang Plan” (Naijia Wang + Weisian) can fundamentally enhance pigs’ disease resistance and production performance, comprehensively improving the reproductive performance of sows. Specifically, Naijia Wang boosts the body’s intrinsic functions, addressing long-term performance issues; while Weisian quickly replenishes the body’s needs, resolving immediate problems. By taking a two-pronged approach, this plan maximizes the animals’ genetic production potential.

Pig farming starts with nutrition, and Hu Chunchan affirmed that proteases play a crucial role at the feed, environmental, and health levels. Practical experience has shown that Xilai Gao’s “Wangwang Plan” holds great potential for cost reduction and efficiency enhancement. Meanwhile, “Xueyuan Kang” demonstrates excellent effects in hematopoiesis and qi tonification, and has received high praise from users for its outstanding application experience.

Family Farms: Reducing Costs and Boosting Efficiency Are Key

Huang Guogang, General Manager of Xilai Gao

Share: Key Focus Areas for Agri- and Livestock Enterprises in the Post-Pandemic Era

Huang Guogang, General Manager of Xilai Gao, delivered the closing keynote speech. He systematically analyzed key considerations from four perspectives: the external environment, aquaculture enterprises, suppliers, and users (family farms and free-range farmers).

Huang Guogang advises that during periods of sluggish market conditions, everyone should avoid being swayed by pessimistic sentiments and instead continue to gain insight into the underlying nature of market changes. In times of market downturn, it’s important to adopt a longer-term perspective—after all, when market prices rise, not all pig farmers can make a profit; only those who have prepared well during the downturn are able to reap profits.

In his view, in the post-pandemic era, large agri-livestock breeding groups will face increasingly fierce competition. Ultimately, the focus will shift from reducing costs and boosting efficiency to enhancing “quality” while maintaining efficiency. For animal health companies and distributors, the transition from product-oriented thinking to project-oriented thinking is essential. As for the vast number of family farms, it’s crucial to keep in mind that reducing costs and boosting efficiency remain the key to success.

After the meeting, attendees expressed that through this conference, they had gained a deeper understanding of Hylight’s product lineup and technological expertise, and had also learned more about Hylight’s strategic direction and product information.
