As the temperature drops, we can increasingly feel the deepening presence of autumn and enjoy its crisp, refreshing air. Autumn boasts relatively cool temperatures, making it an ideal season for cattle raising—and there are many management considerations that require attention during this time. So, how should we raise cattle in autumn? What work arrangements are best for cattle farming in autumn? Let’s find out together!

No.1

Comprehensive deworming

After the onset of autumn, a comprehensive and thorough deworming of the cattle herd should be carried out. Depending on the types of parasites involved and the varying effectiveness of different deworming medications, it may be necessary to use multiple deworming agents administered in several rounds. As of early October currently, a broad-spectrum deworming treatment can be administered to the cattle herd.

We recommend using the Qingjing Combination launched by Xilai Gao Company. "Jing" refers to Mosi-Parasite, which contains moxidectin and is highly effective against both internal parasites—such as roundworms, coccidia, and whipworms—and external parasites—including pig lice and scabies mites—in animals. "Qing" refers to Xilai Mite-Qing, a product specifically designed to eliminate parasite eggs in the surrounding environment of pastures. Don't overlook parasite control in the pasture environment! If you focus solely on treating parasites on and within the animals without addressing the parasite eggs in their living areas, you'll end up with recurring infestations over and over again!

Of course, before using these medications, you must follow the instructions or consult with Xilai Gao experts via the Xilai Gao official account for guidance, and strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage and usage guidelines.

Forage reserve

Autumn is the season when forage resources are most abundant, so cattle farmers should seize the opportunity to stock up on fodder.

Generally, the amount of feed required can be calculated based on the size of the cattle herd. When stockpiling fresh forage such as fresh pasture and fresh corn stover—both of which have relatively high moisture content—it’s important to convert these quantities into dry matter equivalents. For example, fresh corn stover typically contains about 65% water; thus, 100 jin of fresh corn stover yields only 35 jin of dry matter. Additionally, considering factors such as feed wastage, the quantity of forage stockpiled should be increased by 20% to 30% over the theoretical requirement.

If the number of cattle raised is relatively small and the demand for fodder is low, you can collect some crop residues during the autumn harvest—such as corn stalks, soybean stalks, and peanut vines—which can significantly reduce fodder costs.

Import and purchase cattle

Currently, most cattle farmers tend to choose Simmental cattle. Simmental cattle are further divided into Jilin cattle and Inner Mongolia cattle. Jilin cattle have superior quality and grow rapidly, but they are expensive and less disease-resistant. In contrast, Inner Mongolia cattle are slightly inferior in quality and growth rate compared to Jilin cattle, yet they are more affordable and exhibit stronger disease resistance. It is recommended that novice cattle farmers with limited experience choose Inner Mongolia cattle. When purchasing cattle, be sure to carefully examine their health condition, and as much as possible, select animals that are well-fed (excluding cull cattle), energetic, alert, free of labored breathing or coughing, exhibiting normal rumination and bowel movements. Additionally, it’s advisable to check thoroughly for chronic infectious diseases such as brucellosis.

Husbandry Management

Regarding feeding, in autumn, you can appropriately increase the nutritional content of the feed for fattening cattle. First, you can increase the amount of feed given; with the moderate autumn temperatures, cattle’s appetite is significantly higher than in summer.

Second, this approach can enhance feed nutrition by increasing the proportion of concentrates and leguminous forage in the feed, thereby taking full advantage of the prime growing season to help fattening cattle gain weight rapidly. At this stage, you can appropriately use some high-quality, safe growth-promoting additives; we recommend the V-I Plan combination products from Xilai Gao Company.

Wei, or Wiswan, contains 18 amino acids and 10 vitamins, providing our animals with a balanced and comprehensive nutritional supplement. Ai, or Aijia Fei, not only helps regulate various stresses and metabolic disorders but also repairs the gastrointestinal mucosa and promotes the growth of intestinal villi, effectively enhancing the cattle herd’s ability to absorb and convert nutrients. These two products—Wei and Ai—form a perfect complementary combination: one repairs, the other supplements.

Second, it’s important to do a good job in managing the hygiene, ventilation, and disinfection of the cattle shed.

Disease prevention

Autumn is also a high-incidence season for bovine diseases. The incidence rates of foot-and-mouth disease in cattle, infectious pleuropneumonia in cattle, and pasteurellosis in cattle are all relatively high. Therefore, it is essential to carry out effective preventive measures against these diseases in cattle.
